Also if you grab it the wrong way, you can change settings without intending to. I looked at the owner's manual that told me to push down on the release lock and push up on the belt clip.
So after my wife and I spent about an hour each trying to figure it out, I tool a screwdriver and pried the blet clips off. Pushing down on the release lock did not release the belt clip.
As far as RF goes the handsets work well. I thought it would be a good idea to take the batteries out.
After that removing the batteries took a matter of seconds. It's good to see that Chinese engineering is up to its usual high quality. However, I bought them as a saftey measure as I crawled under the house to do repairs while spouse remained outside monitoring the frequency. The buttons are located so that as you press up against things (almost impossible not to do in a crawlspace) you can change channel or turn it off (both of which I did) inadvertantly.
It works great as long as you are very careful handling it.I decided to store the radios since I do not have frequent use for them.
The compact charging base was easy to pack and kept the radios fully charged. We bought the Midland GXT710VP3 radios for our trip to the Bahamas where we would have no cell phone service. Can't wait to use them in the great outdoors for our camping and off-roading trips. We never had a dead battery issue. They worked great across the entire resort, even from our hotel room, in the farthest tower, to a restaurant in the main building. Voices were clear and static was minimal.
Has been very useful with boating. I bought this for our lake home. Batteries maintain their charge. Great range for the open water. Great way to keep in touch and minimize runs between the boat, the beach and the house. Love the weather-radio feature.
But even with that the radios have a clear sound and more range then other handheld radios we have had. Purchased two sets for ski trip and they worked perfect. The 26 mile range works out to be more like 5 to 6 miles in woods and hills.
these units are very easy to use, range is good but no way will it reach 26 miles
